Frequently Asked Questions

Accomodation

Q: How many people can fit comfortably?
A: 4 adults can sleep peacefully on high quality mattresses on 1 queen bed and 2 twin XL beds. Yes, your 6'2" friends will fit on those beds!

The dining table seats 4.

Q: I noticed that the outdoor space is shared. Would we all have privacy?
A: The Retreat is part of a duplex, and only shares about 6 feet of wall space with the Main House. The bedrooms do not share a wall or even a roofline.

Fire/Smoking

Q: Is smoking permitted?
A: Smoking is not permitted on the property.

Q: Can I build a campfire?
A: Open fires like campfires are completely banned and penalized by substantial fines. This is a heavily forested region at high risk for forest fires. Neighbors will report any smoke to the authorities.

Q: Is this property 420-friendly?
A: Smoking is not permitted. What you bake in your brownies is your own business.

Amenities

Q: What kind of equipment is in the kitchen?
A: Breville air fryer/convection oven combo, induction cooktop, Zwilling knives, ceramic-coated (nonstick) pots & pans, spiralizer, blender, food processor, coffee maker, coffee grinder, tea kettle, cupcake pan, pie pan, dry measuring cups, liquid measuring cup, measuring spoons, digital meat thermometer, microwave, mesh colander, mixing bowls, hand mixer. And so on.

Q: Is there internet and TV?
A: There is incredibly high speed internet and wifi. There is no TV.

Q: Is there cell phone service?
A: It's pretty spotty to non-existent. We have a landline that you are welcome to use for domestic calls. You can also connect your cell phone to our wifi.

Q: Is there air conditioning?
A: No. Most of the time it is unnecessary. The last two weeks of July and the first two weeks in August can get a little warm (above 80 degrees) for those who are sensitive to heat.

Accessibility

Q: Are pets allowed?
A: Unfortunately, our livestock guardian dogs are not accustomed to other canine visitors.

Q: Is the property equipped for infants and toddlers?
A: We don't currently have baby/toddler equipment or toddlerproofing. The second story casement windows in the bedroom are not safe for young children.

Q: Is the property accessible for wheelchairs or walkers?
A: Not really. The threshold has no steps, but the bedroom is upstairs. There are no accessibility bars in the bathrooms. That said, a person could navigate the downstairs with a walker if they had someone to help them up the stairs and in the bathroom. There is also a short step to the deck which could be navigated with assistance. The property itself has very hilly and rocky terrain which would be very difficult with a walker or wheelchair.

Q: What is the altitude of the property and what are the roads like?
A: The house sits around 8200 feet. Most of the roads are paved and easy to drive (no winding cliff roads!). The last mile is dirt road, which includes a steep hill up to the house.

During snow season, a 4-wheel drive vehicle is REQUIRED. A private party plows the driveway after every snow, but it would still be difficult to reach the top in a 2-wheel drive sedan.

Health & Safety

Q: What about safety equipment?
A: There are smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and a carbon monoxide detector. We stock a small first aid kit.

Q: How close is the nearest hospital?
A: It's a 45 minute drive to Pikes Peak Regional Hospital.

Q: Are there wild animals in the area?
A: The Rocky Mountains are home to all kinds of animals, including deer, elk, coyotes, bears, bobcats, the occasional moose, and mountain lions. See this link for more information
